Where can I buy a vibrator?

12 Jul

Hello lovely people who I haven’t seen for  a long long time.

I haven’t left the planet – but have started another business which is doing beautifully – but leaving me so much less time for blogging…

Just wondering as I’m rather innocent in this department : )

Can anyone recommend a silent vibrator? Where can I buy it?  (I’m in the UK) Or a good online store where I can view a selection.

Thank you in advance. I do miss reading your salacious stories – but all in good time!

I”m afraid this is not a direct answer to your question, but …

We have had great success with the Hitachi “Magic Wand.” I cannot claim it is silent, but it’s quiet and unobtrusive in that way. I bought ours online from somewhere in China (I think they are assembled there) and I had to buy a transformer here in Philippines as it runs on 110 volts and would be damaged if connected to the 230 volts here, as in UK, but that is no problem. We have had no success with battery-driven gadgets, they are a recipe for frustration.

I have heard there are cheap tacky versions and that the original is no longer made. You will have to research the matter; but I can pretty well guarantee that an original Hitachi will provide what you need..

Glad to hear your business is going well, and I look forward to hearing how whatever gadget you eventually buy works for you.

How come I’m setting myself up as the vibe expert??

The Hitachi was discontinued by Hitachi for, I believe, image reasons. Upstanding Japanese Family Values MegaCorporation, or some such.
They sold the entire Magic Wand operation to VIBRATEX. They did some engineering changes, allegedly to improve it. So, you can still get it.
Except, in UK, you can’t, legally. The device is mains powered and only works on 110 volts. It used to be sold in UK with a 240/110v transformer and worked fine BUT it has never passed EU or UK safety tests. Just not worth the expense. You could import it from US privately – they can be had for as little as $40. A transformer is not difficult and it is a low power device so does not need much.

They have a very different feel to most vibes, more a rumble than a zzzz. I’m told it is very nice:-)

There are UK equivalents – they cost more but work well.

If you get a Hitachi/Vibratex, there is a neat upgrade that you can add which controls the speed more finely than the standard 2 speed option. Some people fine it just too insistent, even on slow.

Glad to hear you are doing well:-)

i like Lovehoney.co.uk. They have a good online site with all sorts of things:-) their helpdesk seems to be 24 hours, at least in weekdays.
They also have offers all the time, so careful and timely selection will get an even better deal.
    Lots of customer product reviews.
If it does not work for you, they will take it back for refund, no quibble. Used, too:-)
Postage is free over £20 (used to be £10 until recently) and discreet packaging.
Free gifts with orders (but have to open the gift offer page or it does not happen).

They have an online forum where all sorts of people throw things in on various topics

Drop me an email and I’ll send you some of the offers they make, give you a feel for it. And a little cheat:-)

        Don’t encourage me!
But as you have, the other question people get hung up on is: USB or rechargeable batteries or normal ones.
My view is to keep it simple and cheap.
USB is very neat but you pay a premium price for them. Ecologically, the device also contains batteries with cadmium, nickel or lithium in them. None of them get recycled, all of them are rare-ish and polluting. And you need a USB charger or a computer.
Rechargeable AA or AAA batteries. Same as USB, but removable. Needs a charger (plastic, copper etc etc).
Ordinary AA or AAA carbon batteries. You buy these 10 for £1. You can recycle them at Tescos. Ordinary materials in then which don’t spoil the water table. And, best of all, if the damn thing starts going a bit slow you can put another pair of batteries in without having to wait 3 hours to recharge. In extremis, steal two out of the TV controller…

Your original comment suggested you don’t have much experience with this technology. I’d suggest you start by buying several not too expensive ones and see what works for you. Maybe a small external vibe or bullet (£6) and a rabbit (£20-£30). Some lube is nice, too.
